Alright, it’s here, after working on Losekai I had another idea that I wanted to create. I decided to take a step back from certain game mechanics and focus more on the combat. I received inspiration after playing Senran Kagura and used that as the base for my design. Before starting to work on the game, I wanted to create a design document of sort, so that I can organize all of my ideas. Linked below is said document.
When designing the core ability system for my game, my main inspiration was Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya. In this anime, the main character has the ability to transform themselves into different servants with those servants abilities. I belived that this would be a creative game mechanic so I thought of some ways to implement them. For this, I decided to go down the chess root, where the player is a pawn and can promote themselves to any piece they want.
Then, I wanted to find an interesting balance on why the player might want to play a certain piece. To do this I gave each piece their own passive abilities to differentiate themselves. However, for the pawn, they have generic abilities you would expect, but then I gave the pawn the unique ability to be able to equip active abilities from other classes, making the pawn the most versatile.
